Did you know we have a global representative network that supports Cambridge viscometers all over the world? We decided to reach out to a few of them to get their thoughts on the compressor industry. The first rep we talked to is Suzhou TAIEN, who is responsible for viscometer sales and support in China.
CVI: How many compressor customers are located in China?
Suzhou Taien: We currently have several dozen. We have solid experience in understanding the needs of the compressor industry and supporting their viscometer applications.
CVI: From what you’ve seen, how has the compressor industry changed over the last few years?
Suzhou TAIEN: We’re seeing compressor refrigerants that are becoming increasingly complex, and changing quickly. The R&D labs are demanding extremely low viscosity measurements, tighter accuracy measurements, and, in some cases, explosion-proof viscometers.
CVI: What changes do you expect to see in the compressor industry over the next five years or so?
Suzhou TAIEN: The biggest change I think we’re going to see will be a lot of new types of compressor refrigerants, like CO2, NH4, etc. which will need a suitable viscometer to monitor them.
CVI: How have the global events over the past year impacted your compressor customers?
Suzhou TAIEN: I think the most obvious answer is the rising costs of their raw materials. That, along with sourcing issues, is a challenge that is being felt universally around the world.
CVI: Can you briefly describe one of your favorite customer success stories in the compressor industry?
Suzhou TAIEN: Every customer success can qualify as a favorite! One of my customers has standardized on the ViscoPro 2000 to test new compressor designs. The ViscoPro is often integrated into the R&D process test new refrigerant, lube oil, or compressor designs.
CVI: What has been your most unique or interesting viscometer application?
Suzhou TAIEN: One of our recent interesting applications was for an explosion-proof viscometer in an explosion-proof compressor lab in Tianjin.
CVI: What are your compressor customers looking for in a viscometer? Is CVI meeting those requirements?
Suzhou TAIEN: Accuracy is probably the biggest requirement. They’re always looking for a highly accurate viscometer that meets their budget constraints. Cambridge viscometers are well received in China, and are definitely meeting the needs of our customers.
Many thanks to Suzhou TAIEN for their time to accommodate our interview.
If you have any questions about viscometers in compressor applications, our application engineers will be happy to talk to you.
