Leading Refiner Uses Explosion-proof Enclosures for Asphalt Viscosity

Jul 31, 2019 1:12:00 PM / by Admin

Faced with improving viscosity control in a challenging processing environment, a leading South American oil refiner turned to Cambridge Viscosity. Cambridge responded by developing explosion-proof mounting enclosures to augment the viscosity control system the company relies upon for highly accurate viscosity measurement.

Refinery engineers say Cambridge Viscosity's explosion-proof viscometer sensors have long been used in refineries and other difficult environments because of their accuracy and reliability, and that the new development enables full local control. Cambridge Viscosity's ViscoPro 2000 ATEX Gc utilizes a purged cabinet for electronic installations in hazardous environments. Cambridge’s entire viscometer system can be installed in difficult Zone 2 environments where local display, interface and controls are necessary.

The first six installations of the new system will be in a Latin American refinery, measuring asphalt streams at multiple locations and facilitating tight control of the final product.

Cambridge Director of Sales and Marketing Pat Riley explains, “As a world leader in small sample viscosity, improving safety and control of complex chemical processes is very important to us. Where risks of harmful vapors are present, electrical devices need to be isolated to prevent vapor explosions. Our new enclosure is ATEX approved for Zone 2 areas, making the work environment safer.”

Find out whether the ViscoPro 2100 is the right viscometer for you by filling out the process viscometer data sheets, which is a quick guide to help you provide the information necessary to identify the best viscometer for your unique application.
